Movie Adaptation Review: Chaos Walking

.
"It’s strange to see everything you’re thinking."
The Chaos Walking trilogy is a series that I've always wanted to read since a very long time ago because of all the hype that's surrounding it. I finally read all 3 books last year, in 2020, but I ended up not loving it as much as other people did. Last year I was extremely busy with personal life so I didn't write a review for them, instead I only write short reviews here, expressing what I think about them. I was quite surprised when I stumbled upon a movie trailer for Chaos Walking and decided that I'm going to watch it when it comes out. I resolved to write a movie adaptation review to replace the book reviews that I never write. Unfortunately, the movie was a complete chaos and I don't think it represents the book very well. I'm going to explain why in this review, and hopefully I won't be spoiling too much for those of you who haven't read the book or watched the movie 😉.

Movie Adaptation Review: The Hate U Give

.
"Violence, brutality. It’s the same story, just a different name."
The Hate U Give is one of my favorite reads from 2017, and I was quite amazed because in such a short period of time, the book got its own movie adaptation. At first I was quite hesitant to watch the movie because I'm not sure if it will do the book justice. But recently I decided to watch it together with my boyfriend, and I'm glad I did! Of course, the book is still 10 times better, but I think the movie adaptation successfully delivered the message of the story really well. Even though I already knew what's going to happen throughout the movie, it had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. In this review, I'm going to talk about some of my favorite things about this movie adaptation. I'll try my best not to spoil too much for those who haven't read the book or watch the movie yet 😊.

Movie Adaptation Review: Crazy Rich Asians

.

I know it's quite late to be posting this, but I'm going to write it nevertheless 😂. I actually watched Crazy Rich Asians twice; the first time with my boyfriend and the second time with my parents. To be honest, I originally planned on reading the book first before going to watch the movie. But since the book is quite lengthy, I decided to just directly watch the movie 😂. I'd have to say, the movie is very pleasant and easy to watch—because you don't have to think too much about it. For the most part, the story line is pretty cliché and predictable; but it's still enjoyable for me personally. In this review I'm going to review some of my favorite parts from the movie. Hopefully I won't spoil too much for those who haven't seen it yet 😉.

Movie Adaptation Review: Ready Player One

.
"...there’s nowhere left to go. Nowhere, except The Oasis. It’s the only place that feels like I mean anything. A world where the limits of reality are your own imagination."
Ready Player One is one of my most anticipated movie adaptation this year, and I finally get to watch it! I read it back in 2017, and unfortunately, I wasn't able to write a full review for it (I did write a short review though). To be honest, my memory about the book is quite vague already; so I think it's a good thing because I will be able to judge the movie on its own. Going out of the theater, I do have to say that I had fun watching it. There are a lot of differences between the book and the movie which can be a good thing or a bad thing. I'll discuss some of them below and try my best not to spoil too much for those who haven't watched it yet 😊😊.

Movie Adaptation Review: Molly's Game

.
image source: here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of Molly's Game
Adapted from Molly's Game by Molly Bloom
"I was raised to be a champion. My goal was to win. At what and against whom, those were just details."
The other day my boyfriend took me to watch this movie at the theater. We were quite intrigued by this movie because the ratings are pretty decent—82% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.6 on IMDB. After doing some research, I found out that this movie is based on an autobiography written by Molly Bloom herself about her life that changed drastically from a pro skier to someone who hosts one of the most exclusive underground poker in the world. I didn't expect to enjoy this movie as much as I did (because I rarely watch any biography movies), but I think this movie is really good! So here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of Molly's Game.

Movie Adaptation Review: The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince)

.

MOVIE ADAPTATION of The Little Prince
"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly.
What is essential is invisible to the eye…"
I watched this movie half-way through during a flight and decided to finish watching it recently at home. I read the book back in 2012, and even though it's not exactly my favorite book, I know that it's an extremely popular classic book among readers. At the time, I didn't fully understood the whole meaning of the story; so I was hoping the movie adaptation would help me understand it better. And I was especially excited when I saw the incredibly beautiful trailer for this movie. So here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of The Little Prince.

Movie Adaptation Review: Paper Towns

.
image source: here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of Paper Towns
read my review on Paper Towns by John Green
"She loved mysteries so much, that she became one."
This movie has been out for quite some time now, but I've hold myself back from watching it until recently. Maybe it's because my feelings about the book is just so-so, that's why I wasn't particularly very excited to watch this movie adaptation. And after I finished watching this movie, my overall feeling was more or less the same with the book. Though I had to say that I enjoyed the book slightly better than the movie adaptation. Okay, here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of Paper Towns.

Movie Adaptation Review: Mockingjay Part 2

.
image source: here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of Mockingjay Part 2
"Anybody can kill anybody, even a President.
You just have to be willing to sacrifice yourself."
The final conclusion of the Hunger Games franchise is finally here, and I'm so happy because I was able to drag someone to watch this with me at the theater XD. Even though there are mixed responses towards this movie, I'm thoroughly satisfied with how the whole story wraps up at the end. Despite the differences between the book and the movie, I absolutely love everything from beginning to end. It was so intense I kept fiddling with my wrists. Anyway, here's my review for the movie adaptation of Mockingjay Part 2—hopefully I won't spoil too much :)

Movie Adaptation Review: The Scorch Trials

.

MOVIE ADAPTATION of The Scorch Trials

I didn't get the chance to watch this movie in the theater, but I finally watched it. And my initial reaction after I finished it was, "What did I just watch?". Firstly, because the movie is literally nothing like what I remembered The Scorch Trials to be. There's so much differences between the book and the movie that I don't even know where to start talking about it. I know that they also changed a lot of things in the first movie, but the second one seems to create a story on its own now; with just the basic idea and characters from the book. Had to say that I'm pretty disappointed in this movie, because The Scorch Trials is my favorite book out of the trilogy. And I'm sad to say that the book is SO SO much better than the movie. Here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of The Scorch Trials.

Movie Adaptation Review: The Martian

.
image source: here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of The Martian
read my review on The Martian by Andy Weir
"At some point, everything's going to go south on you ...
You can either accept that, or you can get to work."
Let me state this right from the beginning that I'm writing this movie adaptation review from the perspective of a person who have read the book beforehand. And I'd have to say I was slightly disappointed by the movie—which I already expect, considering how amazing the book was for me and I know how difficult it will be to translate into a 2-hour movie. But that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, because I did. It's still action-packed and has its own funny moments. All I'm saying is, it's not the best movie adaptation out there because it doesn't really do justice to the book (in my opinion). Anyway, here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of The Martian.

Movie Adaptation Review: Still Alice

.
image source: here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION REVIEW of Still Alice
Read my short book review on Still Alice by Lisa Genova
"I have good days and bad days. On my good days I can almost pass for a normal person, but on my bad days I feel like I can’t find myself."
This is actually not a new movie—it was released back in 2014, but I never got the chance to see it even though I really wanted to because I've read the book back in 2011. Then I recently saw this movie available on my flight from Auckland to Singapore, so I decided to watch it. It was a very poignant and beautiful movie. It's heartbreaking, heart-wrenching, and just gave me all the feels. I don't remember much about the details of the book aside from the fact that it's about a woman with Alzheimer's disease. And watching this movie kind of reminded me why I rated the book 5 stars back then. Okay, let's jump right in to my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of Still Alice.

Movie Adaptation Review: The Longest Ride

.

MOVIE ADAPTATION of The Longest Ride
Love requires sacrifice, always.
OH GOSH, I still can't get over at how attractive Scott Eastwood is in this movie! ♥♥♥ I was never into cowboys before (and I also mentioned in my book review that I couldn't love Luke Collins in the book enough because he's a cowboy), but I won't say no to a cowboy that looks like him. Anyways, back to the movie adaptation! For once, I will say that I actually liked the movie adaptation a little bit more than the book. No, not only because of Scott Eastwood, but I feel like the story flowed a bit better in the movie. It's a classic romance story that you'll always get whenever you watch a Nicholas Sparks' movie adaptation. Okay, so here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of The Longest Ride :))

Movie Adaptation Review: Love, Rosie

.
image source: here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of Love, Rosie
read my review on Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern

OMGGGG SAM CLAFLIN ♥♥♥ Seriously though, I need more of his smile in my life. And he's such a great actor, he deserved a leading role in more movies. Anyways, back to the movie adaptation. Sadly, I'd have to say that plot-wise, the book is ten times better than the movie. Which I can totally understand, because the book is pretty long and I know it'll be difficult to fit all that into a one-and-a-half-hour movie. Even though I'm quite sad because the movie definitely didn't do justice to the book, I actually really enjoyed my time watching it. Though I'm not sure whether it's because of Sam Claflin or not..... Alright, so here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of Love, Rosie! And if you'd like, turn on the song below while reading this post ;) It's played once in the movie and I think it's the perfect soundtrack :D

Movie Adaptation Review: Cinderella

.
image source: here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of Cinderella
Adapted from Cinderella by Grimm Brothers
"Where there is kindness there is goodness, and where there is goodness there is magic."
I honestly did not plan on watching this movie, because when I watched the trailer some time ago I thought "Isn't this trailer literally the whole movie?". But then it was a national holiday on Saturday, March 21st, so me and my friends decided to go out and see this movie. The main reason, we wanted to see Frozen Fever, lol. I didn't expect much from this movie adaptation and will just enjoy it for fun. But in the end, I actually enjoyed it, a LOT. A little bit out of topic before I start on the review; Frozen Fever was really cute! It's a short clip before the Cinderella movie starts, and Elsa is having a cold when she's throwing a birthday party for Anna. And every time she sneeze, she produces these cute little snow babies :3 Anyways, here goes my review for the movie adaptation of Cinderellaprobably the most popular princess of all-time. I assume there's nothing to spoil about this story, so I'll just talk about everything :)

Movie Adaptation Review: Insurgent

.
image source: here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of Insurgent
read my book review on Insurgent
"I'm not gonna fight you."
"Of course you're not. You're gonna fight you."
I watched Insurgent last Friday on the 20th, the day after the movie was released in my country; and I experienced something new in the movie theater: a blackout. Which was funny but totally annoying at the same time, because it happened during the climax of the movie! We had to wait for several minutes before the movie starts again. Anyways, it was really funny to experience blackout in the theater for the first time. Now back to the movie. To be honest, I started watching it without any sort of expectation because: 1) my memory about Insurgent is already quite vague, 2) judging from the trailers, the movie is going to change a lot of things. Here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of Insurgent (might have a slight spoiler if you haven't read the book/watched the previous movie).

Movie Adaptation Review: The Best of Me

.
image source: here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of The Best of Me
read my book review on The Best of Me
"You are my dearest friend, my deepest love. You are the best of me."
I'm so happy that I finally get to watch the movie adaptation of The Best of Me, because I really enjoyed the book last year. And oh my gosh, I love James Marsden in this movie! I know I'm supposed to feel sad after watching this movie, but since I have already knew the story beforehand and experienced the sadness then, I guess it wasn't so bad the second time around. Even so, watching the movie is a different kind of experience; especially because there are a lot of changes in the plot—which I will discuss further later on. So here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of The Best of Me. *Also don't forget check out the movie soundtrack by Colbie Caillat below, because I love it so much :')) The song and lyrics is perfect for the movie as well. ↓↓↓↓

Movie Adaptation Review: The Kite Runner

.
image source: here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of The Kite Runner
read my short review on The Kite Runner
"For you, a thousand times over."
FEELSSS. SUCH A GOOD MOVIE. It's been such a long time since I read this book, almost 5 years ago, and I literally forgot how heartbreaking this story can be. I think I knew this book was adapted into a movie in 2007, but I was never interested in watching it. So what made me decide to watch it? Recently I read a review of The Kite Runner, and the reader explained how great the book is. And at that point, I seriously want to reread the book. But due to my TBR pile (of course), I stopped myself from doing so. And I thought watching the movie adaptation will take shorter time to relive the story—even though it wouldn't be exactly the same like the book. In the end I didn't regret my decision; because it is indeed an incredible story, and also a good movie to watch. Here's my non-spoiling review on the movie adaptation of The Kite Runner.

Movie Adaptation Review: STAND BY ME ドラえもん (Stand By Me Doraemon)

.
image source: here. here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of Stand By Me Doraemon

Who doesn't know Doraemon? Doraemon is a part of my childhood, because I remember every Sunday morning, I woke up early with my brother and watched all our favorite cartoons. As a child, I don't really read Doraemon comic books (I haven't developed my love for reading at the time) and only watched the TV shows. And even when I stopped watching it, I always remember Doraemon as this cute cat robot who has all sorts of amazing-helpful stuffs inside its' magical pocket. And also the fact that Doraemon loves Dorayaki. Watching this movie just brings back all the good memories, and the characters come in a much more beautiful, 3D form. It's a very heartwarming movie to watch, and I have to admit I shed tears watching it. So here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of Stand By Me Doraemon.

Movie Adaptation Review: Paddington

.
image source: here. here. edited by me.
MOVIE ADAPTATION of Paddington

I watched this movie in the theater about a week ago with my friends, and I just found out that it was adapted from a children's literature! It's the perfect Christmas movie because it's heartwarming, cute, and you can watch it with all your family members or friends. The movie is pretty short, around one-and-a-half hour, but it's a pretty good movie. It's very visually pleasing. (and as you can see in the posters, it's from the producer of Harry Potter!) Okay, so here's my non-spoiling review for the movie adaptation of Paddington!

Movie Adaptation Review: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

.

MOVIE ADAPTATION of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
read my book review on The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
"Will you follow me, one last time?"
Finally watched the grand finale of The Hobbit movie adaptation trilogy, and special thanks to my friend who accompanied me to watch it ♥ Because if it weren't for her, I would've waited until the movie is available online. If you've read my post about The Battle of the Five Armies trailer, you would know how much I'm anticipating this movie—mostly because the trailer looks so promising. And now after I finished watching it, the title of the movie is perfect for it because it's a full-on battle for the 2-and-a-half hour duration. Here's my non-spoiling review for the third and final movie adaptation of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (might have a bit of spoiler if you haven't read the book/watched the previous two movies).
