♥ 55 Reading Questions ♥

.

Just saw this Reading-Questions-thing on several BBI blogs, and I thought it will be very interesting to answer the questions myself. Credit goes to here. The questions are all related to books and reading, hopefully I'll be able to answer them all. The fun thing about this questions is that you can see how every person has different book-preferences and reading habits. Without further delay, here goes my answers :)

1. Favorite childhood book?
Roald Dahl's books; which includes Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I had to read those books during my English class years ago and I love it so much.

2. What are you reading right now?
Endorphin: A Dose of Happiness by Pramesti Ratna

3. What books do you have on request at the library?
None; the library at my university rarely provides the book I'm looking for. Mostly are only textbooks, magazines, and other books which are considered relevant for studies.

4. Bad book habit?
Buying too much books without considering all the books piling up in my bookshelves already.
Neglecting the old books and keep reading all the new released books.
I can't resist the temptation of books with great covers.

5. What do you currently have checked out at the library?
None.
6. Do you have an e-reader?
I have an iPhone, which could be used as an e-reader. But I rarely used it because the text would be too small and hurts my eyes. I prefer printed words.
7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
One book at a time; just because my brain isn't too cooperative when I read more than one book at a time. I tried it once and I kind of mixed up the plot and characters between the two books. Absolutely messy.
8. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?
Yes! Before I started blogging, I tend to read slowly and sometimes confused what book to read next. Now, I try to read faster so I'd be able to finish more books and write reviews. It's a good change, I think.
9. Least favourite book you read this year (so far)?
I don't really remember the books that I don't like (sorry for my bad memory). But according to my Goodreads Challenge this year, my lowest rating goes to Sapporo No Niji by Hapsari Hanggarini and Jatuh Cinta by Jevo Jett.
10. Favorite book you’ve read this year.

As for favorite book, honestly it's very difficult for me to choose because I've read so many great books this year! But so far, these are on top of my favorites list in 2012. Most are Indonesian books because I didn't get to read a lot of English books lately.
Negeri Para Bedebah by Tere-Liye
Fly to the Sky by Nina Ardianti & Moemoe Rizal
Rembulan Tenggelam di Wajahmu by Tere-Liye
2 by Donny Dhirgantoro
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Sunshine Becomes You by Ilana Tan
TherMelian Series by Shienny M.S.
11. How often do you read out of your comfort zone?
Sometimes; when a book gets a lot of attention, it draws my curiosity and makes me want to read it - even though it's out of my comfort zone.
12. What is your reading comfort zone?
I don't really know what's my exact comfort zone, but probably General Fiction, Young Adult, Fantasy, and Romance because I mostly read those kinds of books.
13. Can you read on the bus?
Yes, but not for a very long time.
14. Favorite place to read?
Starbucks would be my number 1 choice because the place is so comfy and I could spend hours sitting there alone with a book and a glass of coffee; but I mostly do my reading at home, in my bed.
15. What is your policy on book lending?
I'm actually not that strict about book lending, as long as the book comes back to me and still in a good condition.
16. Do you ever dog-ear books?
Yes, when I spot a good quote in a book I usually dog-ear the page so I could come back to it when I write a review.
17. Do you ever write in the margins of your books?
No, I only write my name on the front page and the date I finished reading the book.
18. Not even with text books?
Text books? Not only write, I even draw on them.
19. What is your favourite language to read in?
I am most comfortable reading books in Indonesian, of course - since it's the language I know best. But I actually love reading books in English, because English books somehow could describe things so well. Reading books in English also helps me a lot in improving my grammar as well as vocabulary. So I guess my favorite would be both?
20. What makes you love a book?
If a book could affect me emotionally, entertains me, has a great plot and conflict, likeable/lovable characters, gives me a lot of life lessons, have a bunch of awesome quotes and a beautiful cover; I think I'll love the book.
21. What will inspire you to recommend a book?
I rarely recommend a book to anyone; because I always think that not everyone has the same reading preferences as I do.
22. Favorite genre?
As I've said in Question 11 I mostly read General Fiction, Young Adult, Fantasy, and Romance - so I think those are my favorite genres.
23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did)?
Memoirs/Biography.
24. Favourite biography?
I still don't have any favorites because so far the biographies I read are just so-so.
25. Have you ever read a self-help book?
Yes! I actually read quite a lot of self-help/self-improvement books, I think those books makes me learn so much.
26. Favourite cookbook?
Never read a cookbook before, not a good cook either :1
27. Most inspirational book you’ve read this year (fiction or non-fiction)?
2 by Donny Dhirgantoro
28. Favorite reading snack?
I don't eat snacks while reading (even if I wanted to), because I'm having difficulty of holding the book and grabbing the food at the same time. So I usually just had a nice cold drink beside me. I love having a glass of chocolate milk or sweet iced-tea while reading.
29. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience.
Probably, this? Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer. Before I even read the book, the hype is unbelievable; so I had an extremely high expectation but ended up disappointed.
30. How often do you agree with critics about a book?
Sometimes?
31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?
Actually, I always feel bad every time I need to give bad/negative reviews. But I have to write the fact, because if I write otherwise it wouldn't be honest. And I also think other people needed to know about it as well.
32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose?
Korean and Chinese. Or if I'm going to the extreme probably Russian, haha :P
33. Most intimidating book you’ve ever read?
I don't remember any at the moment.
34. Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin?

Millenium series by Stieg Larsson. I don't even know the reason why I'm too nervous to begin reading this series. This trilogy has been sitting in my shelves for probably more than a year now, but I still haven't found the urge to open the first book. Hopefully I would though...someday. I heard this is a great series.
35. Favorite Poet?
I'm quite embarrassed to say that I don't have one.
36. How many books do you usually have checked out of the library at any given time?
I don't borrow books from the library anymore, but back in High School I used to check out one book at a time. When I'm finished with one, I'll go back to borrow another.
37. How often have you returned books to the library unread?
Never, I think. Why would I borrow the book if I didn't read it?
38. Favorite fictional character?

This is a difficult question to answer, because I have tons of favorite fictional characters. But right now, the name Peeta Mellark from The Hungers Games by Suzanne Collins crossed my mind. ♥♥
39. Favourite fictional villain?

Villain, huh? I rarely remember villain characters because I usually hate them. But one villain I'll always remember is Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. I think he's very admirable - aside from his evil being - because of his amazing wizardry and his ability to create the horcruxes. Talking about this suddenly makes we want to re-read the series.
40. Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation?
I would, of course, choose a book which is not heavy. I don't really mind the genre or anything, as long as it's easy to bring.
41. The longest I’ve gone without reading.
2-3 days, I think?
42. Name a book that you could/would not finish.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I was reading it in English and honestly I hardly understand anything about the book, so I stopped midway. Have to read a lot of reviews on the internet to finally understand what it was talking about.
43. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?
People talking to me while I'm reading.
44. Favorite film adaptation of a novel?

I would choose one that I saw most recently. The Hunger Games! Just because I love Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.
45. Most disappointing film adaptation?

Unfortunately, I have to say The Twilight Saga. I stopped watching after New Moon, just because I don't like Kristen Stewart's acting. This is just my personal opinion, by the way.
46. The most money I’ve ever spent in the bookstore at one time?
Around IDR 500,000 or so - when I lost my mind.
47. How often do you skim a book before reading it?
I never skim a book.
48. What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through?
If I stop reading half-way, it would mean the book is too boring, I don't understand what the story is trying to say, too difficult for my brain to digest, or I feel that it's just plain useless for me to continue.
49. Do you like to keep your books organized?
Yes.
50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them?
I mostly keep them - especially the ones I love, but I would sell some as well when I think it's time to say goodbye (because my bookshelves can't keep any more books).
51. Are there any books you’ve been avoiding?
Horror/Thriller.
52. Name a book that made you angry.
Angry? I think Daisyflo by Yennie Hardiwidjaja made me angry towards the character: Tora; because he's just plain evil. But it was an amazing and emotional book.
53. A book you didn’t expect to like but did?

Ther Melian series by Shienny M.S. I don't read local fantasy books much so I don't have any expectation towards this one; but this series really amazed me. The story's very exciting and intense, I couldn't stop reading it until the very end.
54. A book that you expected to like but didn’t?
Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift. I expect the book to be as fun as the movie, but I forgot the fact that this book is a classic. The plot wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be.
55. Favorite guilt-free, pleasure reading?
Don't remember any at the moment.

Finally finished answering all the questions! Answering these questions also makes me reflect upon myself and my readings so far. Hopefully I'll find more questions like this to answer ^^ . Bye for now, going back to my piling assignments needed to be finished soon.
