August Wrap-Up // September TBR | 2014

.
image source: here. edited by me.
To be honest, August wasn't a very productive month for my blog (and my reading). I got back from my holiday trip to the UK on 10th, and had so many things to do after that. I also dedicated almost the whole month to finish reading A Game of Thrones; so I only picked up comic books to alternate my reading (because I can never focus on reading two different stories at the same time). Not that I'm complaining, because A Game of Thrones is totally awesome and Westeros is still lingering in my mind. Thankfully, in the last few days of August I managed to read several Indonesian books that I bought this month. I read a total of 5 books in August (not including Son), but only managed to review 4 of them (because I seriously have no idea how to start my review on A Game of Thrones). So here are the books I've read and reviewed this month, non-review posts in August, and lastly a list of books I'm planning to read in September. spoiler: I mentioned a bit about my holiday, a course I recently take, and k-dramas!

August 2014: Book Haul

.

It's finally time for another book haul! Last month I didn't buy any books, but this month I went a bit crazy with book-buying (because I also got some books on my holiday trip). Those who followed me on Instagram would know that I cleaned and rearranged my bookshelves in the last few days; and I'm also planning to sell/donate some of books - which means more space in my bookshelves for new books! This month I acquired 15 books; mostly are English books and several Indonesian books. Unfortunately I have only finished reading 2 books from this pile, because this month I devoted my time to reading A Game of Thrones (btw, I finally finished the book! Hopefully the review will be up soon). Without further delay, let me introduce my new books!

Movie Adaptation Review: The Book Thief

.

MOVIE ADAPTATION of The Book Thief

It's been a few months since I finished reading the book, but only now do I finally make time to watch the movie adaptation - because I was a bit worried the movie would disappoint me if I watched it right after I'm done with the book. It turns out I was only disappointed a little. Although the movie definitely left out a whole bunch of important scenes because of the limited time, it still delivered the main plot and the important message of the story. So here's my (hopefully) non-spoiling review on the movie adaptation of The Book Thief.

✮ LINE Webtoon ✮

.
image source: here. edited by me.
So first of all, I'd like to say that I'm not promoting or anything with this post - I just want to have something to write in this blog after being absent for quite some time. I'm sorry I haven't been able to update much on this blog after my holiday, because I'm still a little bit jet-lagged and I needed to settle some other things first. Hopefully I can make a post about my holiday when I have time, because I'm obviously not done reading A Game of Thrones yet - so no book review for a while.

Now back to this post. I downloaded the LINE Webtoon App before I went on my holiday, so it's been around for several months now (I think) - and I'm super addicted to it! Basically it's a new way of reading comics through mobile devices. If you're reading online, you'll have to click next to flip the pages and sometimes it took a long time to load. However with this app, you just have to load once, and you can enjoy an episode by scrolling down the screen. You can even download your favorite comics and read them offline! I've been following several webtoons through this app (I haven't got the chance to read them all, but I'm planning to), and I'm going talk about this app a bit more and share my favorites webtoons in this post :)

"Yes, she had always been content. Everyone was, in the community. Their needs were tended to; there was nothing they lacked, nothing they.... That was it, Claire realized. She had never yearned for anything before. But now, ever since the day of the birth, she felt a yearning constantly, desperately, to fill the emptiness inside her.
She wanted her child."
Claire was assigned as a Birthmother when she was 12, and every Birthmother are supposed to produce three times before they're assigned as Laborers. But when Claire is about to produce her first product, something went wrong with the procedure and she was reassigned to the Fish Hatchery soon after. Claire sneaked into the Nurturing Center to find out about her son, number Thirty-Six, and she volunteered there just so she could see the baby. Claire felt deep affection towards the baby, a feeling she felt alone in the community because she never consumed the pills to suppress emotions. Later on, she found out her baby failed to thrive and was going to be released. The next day, a boy escaped the community to Elsewhere - bringing her son with him. And Claire sets off in search of her beloved son, not knowing the long and difficult journey that awaits her.
