It's been so long since I made a Top Ten Tuesday post, and I recently found a topic that really interests me, which is Authors I Haven't Read But Want To. These past few years, I discovered so many new authors and have accumulated plenty of books that I still haven't read yet. In this post, I will be sharing 10 of them as a way to remind myself as well to prioritize these authors on my to-read list. Maybe I'll start reading the standalone books first before tackling the trilogies/series—because series can sometimes be intimidating, especially when they're extremely long and take a long time to finish. So here are the authors, listed in alphabetical order đ
For those of you who are a fan of fantasy books, I'm sure you've heard the name Brandon Sanderson before. Even though I also love fantasy, it's sad to say that I have never read his books. One of the main reasons why is because it needs a huge commitment to start reading Brandon Sanderson's books since most of them are pretty long. I have several of his books on my bookshelves and I should definitely gather my motivation to start reading one of them soon đ. Should I start with Mistborn? đ¤
The second one on this list is a rather popular author that I heard a lot about recently. If I'm not mistaken, Emily Henry's books got popular on BookTok (I don't even have TikTok on my phone though, so don't quote me on that đ¤Ŗ)—which piqued my interest and made me decide to add her books into my to-read list. Most of her books seems to be contemporary romance, which I like to read from time to time. I don't usually read a lot of romance books, but I definitely want to see what the hype is all about. I personally think this one should be on top of my reading list because it's a standalone book.
Here's an author whose books I've been dying to read because I only heard good things about The Green Bone Saga. The final book in the trilogy was published at the end of 2021, so I made a promise to myself to read the whole series this year. Hopefully I'll be able to keep my promise because I definitely want to experience all the good things that people say about Fonda Lee's writing!
Another really popular series that I've been wanting to read is The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin. To be honest, I don't really know what the story is about but a lot of BookTubers that I watched kept recommending it. Haven't read a single book written by N.K. Jemisin before, but I want to see whether I'll love her writing or not.
I actually own several books by Neal Shusterman but unfortunately they're still left unread on my bookshelves đ . But ever since Arc of a Scythe series came out, my desire to read his books immediately increased. The concept of the whole series sounds so cool and I can't wait to start reading the first one! If I end up loving Neal Shusterman writing in this series, I might continue reading his other books that I own as well.
I first heard of Pierce Brown's name when the Red Rising Saga was published. A lot of people loved it, but as always, I decided to wait until the whole series ended before I start reading. The sixth book in the series is scheduled to be published in 2022, so I hope I'll be able to get a taste of his writing soon because the average rating on Goodreads for his books are incredibly high.
Even more fantasy writers on this list! đ This author is quite popular to the point that her books are translated to Indonesian in my country. The Poppy War trilogy was recommended by a lot of people as well and the high average rating on Goodreads shows how much people love this series.
This author has a LOT of books published already and it's a shame to say that I haven't read a single book written by her. I discovered Robin Hobb's books through a BookTuber who I usually watch and I'm really interested to try reading one of her books. I even searched the internet for the recommended reading order for her books because there are just so many and I have no idea where to start đ¤Ŗ
I'm sure we all know who Stephen King is; his works has been adapted to a movie multiple times, and yet I haven't read a single book by him ever. The main reason why I'm hesitant to read Stephen King's works is because I'm easily scared and I don't usually pick up horror or thriller books. I know that not all of his books are scary but I guess his books have that spooky image in my head đ¤Ŗ. I honestly have no idea which book will be a good introduction to Stephen King's writing, but I certainly want to read at least one in my lifetime.
The last one is the only non-fiction author on this list đ. I've seen Timothy Keller quoted numerous times in the books that I read recently—that's why I really want to actually read the books that he write because those quotes are thought-provoking. I actually own several of his books and plan to start one really soon (isn't that what I said for every single author on this list? đ¤Ŗ). I'm looking forward to learning more about Christianity through his books.
So those are the top ten authors that I haven't read but want to! Hopefully this post will help keep myself accountable and actually push myself to read at least a few of them within this year. There are still so many amazing authors that I haven't read, so I think there might be a part 2 of this post in the future đ¤. Have you read any of the authors that I listed above? Or do you have any authors that you'd like to recommend? Feel free to share your thoughts or your own Top Ten Tuesday post in the comments below! đ
