Book Kaleidoscope 2013: Top Five Book Boyfriends

image source: here. edited by me.
YAYY Finally I can do this extremely fun event - Book Kaleidoscope 2013 - like last year, which is hosted by Fanda @ Fanda Classiclit; because it's a way for me to look back at what I've read in 2013. Thankfully the links are still open although I'm very late in joining this event. The first category is to choose the top 5 male characters you love the most, chosen from all the books read in 2013. This year I only read 88 books, which is a downturn compared to last year. So without further delay, here's my list of top 5 book boyfriends this year - in no particular order. Read my last year's post here.

Vadin is a super attractive lawyer who can be both a gentleman and be witty at the same time. I always love this kind of male character. He's really good at talking - well, since he's a lawyer, of course. I mentioned in my book review that I though it would be very fun and comfortable to live with a man like him - except for the fact that he smokes, which I cannot stand. But aside from his smoking habit, this type of guy is what I want for my boyfriend, or as a husband even.

Every Day by David Levithan

Every Day is one of the book that left the deepest impression in me this year. I don't know if he's qualified to be in this category or not, since he's only a soul and doesn't have his own body. But his love for Rhiannon, what he did for her, his sacrifice for the girl his love is absolutely admirable. What made me love this character the most is what he did at the end of the book - which totally made me on the verge of tears. And for that, A deserves to be on this list.
"In your heart, you know. He didn't act like Justin. He didn't do things Justin does. That's because it was me. I didn't mean to do it. I didn't mean to fall in love with you. But it happened. And I can't erase it. I can't ignore it. I have lived my whole life like this, and you're the thing that has made me wish it could stop."
Kim Chang Ryong
Sweet Melody by Baek Myo (Book 1) (Book 2)

Kim Chang Ryong is a super adorable character from Sweet Melody. He's extremely confident and proud of himself (in a fun and cute way) and he's like a sunshine that brightens those around him. Even though he act that way, Chang Ryong actually has a painful family background - which is why I admire his character even more. His ignorance in the story is also hilarious; especially his super cute jealousy. A character that made me smile a lot should be in the top five book boyfriends ;)
Tobias Eaton / Four
Divergent & Insurgent by Veronica Roth

In this case, it wasn't a love at first sight (or read), because I was attracted to him after his character is thoroughly developed in the story. In the beginning, Four's character might seem cold and mysterious; but when he's with Tris, he's like a totally different person who can be really sweet and tamed. No doubt, he's a tough character but he would also do anything he can for the one he loves. Four is also a character with a heartbreaking life-history; but I guess that' the reason he's so brave, tough, and also fearless. Love this guy!
"I think we've made a mistake,... We've all started to put down the virtues of the other factions in the process of bolstering our own. I don't want to do that. I want to be brave, and selfless, and smart, and kind, and honest.... I continually struggle with kindness."

  Augustus Waters
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Although I said that this list is made with no particular order, Augustus Waters is my number 1 Book Boyfriend this year! This guy is so sweet and I always smile at whatever he says (in the book). What I love the most about Augustus is his way of thinking and the way he treats the people around him - like what he did for his best friend and also for his girlfriend. Even though he has one artificial leg, it definitely doesn't reduce his charm, and I might always remember Augustus Waters in my heart. Hopefully Ansel Elgort will do justice to this amazing character.
"I'm in love with you, and I'm not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I'm in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we're all doomed and that there will come a day when our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we'll ever have, and I am in love with you."

See you on the next category ;)
