"Some parents let their young kids win at games, but mine never did.
I don't think it was because they were particularly competitive, they just wanted to teach me a valuable lesson. Life is mostly just learning how to lose."
This volume starts off by rewinding a little bit from the events that happened at the end of the previous volume. A pair of tabloid journalist named Upsher and Doff are currently digging more information on Alana and Marko's escape; but their investigation might not go as they have planned. On the other hand, Alana and Marko's rocket ship is going towards Quietus to find D. Oswald Heist—the author who wrote Alana's favorite book. They did not realize that the people who are pursuing them, Prince Robot IV and The Will with Gwendolyn, are right on their heels. And they will soon have to confront their pursuers.

"We are small, but the universe is not. That's how my family hoped to survive the many diverse entities who wanted us dead or worse. As long as we kept moving, our pursuers would have little chance of finding us in the vastness of space. Sooner or later, they'd have to give up."
Alana and Marko are still on the run aboard their rocketship, and in this second volume of Saga the story tells a little bit more about Marko's family and the start of his relationship with Alana. The freelancer, The Will, met Gwendolyn—Marko's ex-fiancée—who came along and join the hunt to find Marko. Both of them managed to save the Slave Girl from Sextillion and found out that she had the power to sense the presence of Marko's ring through Gwendolyn's necklace. On the other hand, Prince Robot IV went to Quietus to find D. Oswald Heist—the author who wrote Alana's favorite book. And with that, the pursuers are getting so much closer to capturing the fugitives.

"Once upon a time, each of us was somebody's kid. Everyone had a father, even if he never provided anything more than his seed. Everyone had a mother, even if she had to leave us on a stranger's doorstep.
No matter how we're eventually raised, all of our stories begin the exact same way. They all end the same, too."
The first volume of Saga follows our two main characters: Alana and Marko who comes from different worlds which are currently at war with each other. Alana comes from the largest planet in the galaxy, Landfall, which is technologically advanced. While Marko comes from Wreath—Landfall's only satellite where the people can use magic. Alana was assigned to guard Marko who has become a prisoner of war and was imprisoned on planet Cleave. But soon they fell in love and escaped together. The story starts with Alana giving birth to their daughter, Hazel; and their respective worlds are enraged at the idea. Thus the Landfallians and Wreathers sent troops to pursue them. And things got even more complicated as the pursuers from these two warring worlds conflicted with each other.
